Even at his licensing in Verden in 2022, Venturo displayed all the attributes for a promising sporting career: performing at the highest level in all three gaits, possessing great spring and dynamism, an incredibly powerful hindquarters, a strong back, and a balanced temperament. He was also praised for his very correct conformation. Venturo concluded his sport test in Münster-Handorf in February 2024 with a resounding success: winning the class of four-year-old stallions with an overall score of 9.19 – the second-highest overall score for four-year-old stallions in sport tests over the last ten years! His outstanding rideability was rated at 9.8.
All of this is no coincidence – Venturo is genetically well-protected from both his father’s and mother’s sides.
The sire Valdiviani, a son of Veneno’s first crop (who was victorious up to advanced level with Beatrice Hoffrogge and is now highly successful in international young horse dressage with Rose Oatley), is one of Isabell Werth’s rising stars (“I am 100% convinced that he will play a major role in the dressage arena!”). From a small first crop, Valdiviani sired three stallions to Verden. All were licensed, and Venturo received a premium! Furthermore, another son out of a Swarovski dam was licensed in Münster-Handorf.
Valdiviani’s dam, premium mare Fairlight RB, bred by Roger Ballmann in St. Vieth, Belgium, is one of the most successful mares in the Rhineland.
She is a descendant of the Grand Prix-successful Fidertanz, about whom little needs to be said, and, through her mating with Lord Loxley, produced the gelding Lieberman, successful up to S-level dressage, who won the young horse show in Wickrath as a four-year-old. From her mating with Escolar, Fairlight RB produced a highly talented mare who, like her brother Valdiviani, is being prepared for higher levels of competition at Isabell Werth’s stable. Fairlight RB sired the champion foal of the Euregio Show in Aachen three times in a row: Valdiviani by Veneno and two foals by Escolar – all awarded gold.
From a sporting perspective, and especially in dressage, the direct dam line is outstanding . Venturo’s dam is the champion mare of the 2012 Elite Show in Wickrath, State Premium Mare Bohemian Rhapsodie by Belissimo M, from the successful breeding program of Ulla Katzorke, Essen. Under the saddle of Kira Wulferding, she placed fourth in the 2018 Nuremberg Burgpokal and was a serial winner in advanced level competitions up to Intermediaire I. Her dam, Rhapsodie Queen by De Niro, competed successfully at Grand Prix level with Isabell Werth.
Other half-siblings of Rhapsodie Queen: Hann.Pr.St. Fine Rhapsodie by Feedback, champion mare at Wickrath and class winner at the 2015 Herwart von der Decken Show, successful up to Prix St. Georges; Bohemian Prince by Belissimo, successful up to Prix St. Georges; and St.Pr.St. Fillipa K by Fidertanz, successful up to M**. The third dam, St.Pr./EL. Rhapsodie by Lord Liberty G x Goldlöwe, also produced offspring successful in sport, including Detroit by Dimaggio, competing up to Grand Prix Special and winning team bronze at the 2014 European Championships for Young Riders in Arezzo, Italy (ridden by Anna Zibrandtsen/DEN). It doesn’t get any better than this!
Perhaps also of interest from a breeding perspective is the fact that the three-quarter-blood stallion Bolero dominated the 2022 licensing year in Verden like no other, not only due to the number of stallions presented, but above all in terms of quality. Of a total of nine premium stallions, Bolero’s offspring appear four times on the sire’s side (Bonds and Bon Courage twice each) and once on the dam’s side with Venturo. An impressive record.
